North Hempstead is home to the most dangerous intersections

On Behalf of Kaston & Aberle, LLP | May 13, 2022 | Car Accidents

Driving in New York can be a hazard if you aren’t fully prepared. There seems to be nowhere that this is more true than in Nassau County. Within the confines of the county, North Hempstead is listed as an area in which to exercise extreme caution while driving. This is because it contains some of the state’s worst intersections.

Half of the county’s worst intersections are in Hempstead

A recent report issued by the Nassau County Police Department confirms that half of the very worst intersections in the area are in North Hempstead. This is the area where the number of injuries and fatalities resulting from car accidents has risen to an all-time high in recent years.

Nassau County as a whole has 10 of the worst intersections in the entire state of New York, and 5 of them are located in North Hempstead. The number of accidents recorded in the past few years has led to increasing concern.

Police have issued safety warnings to drivers

The high number of fatalities caused by traffic accidents has caused the police to patrol the area and give warnings to those who are behaving in an unsafe manner. Drivers have been cautioned to avoid speeding, texting while driving, and driving while drunk or using drugs. This is in response to the latest fatality stats that show Nassau County as having racked up 62 deaths in the previous year.

Safety warnings have also been issued to bicycle riders and pedestrians. Bike riders are urged to wear reflective gear to make them visible to drivers at night. Pedestrians have also been cautioned to wear protective clothing and to always make use of the designated crosswalks. They have also been urged to avoid using headphones that cancel out traffic noise.
