Sharing the road with frustrated drivers

On Behalf of Kaston & Aberle, LLP | May 27, 2022 | Car Accidents

When you get on the road in New York, there’s always the possibility that you’re going to encounter a driver who is angry at something and who takes their aggression out on other motorists. Here are some of the most common types of road rage that could lead to an accident.

Causes of road rage

In order to understand some of the road rage actions that you might see from other drivers, you should know about a few causes of the anger and frustration that drivers might experience. They might be running late for work or for an appointment. There could be something that’s going on in their personal life that they are upset about. Some people simply don’t have any regard for other drivers and take control of the road, which can lead to car accidents.

Forms

A common type of road rage is tailgating. This occurs when another driver stays right behind your vehicle and leaves little to no room between the two of you. If you happen to suddenly stop on the road, then the other vehicle would likely rear-end you, which could enhance the anger that they already have. Another common action that you might see is an angry gesture that’s given by a driver. This sometimes happens when drivers are frustrated with slow-moving vehicles and think that they probably won’t see the other driver again. Instead of just driving on past, they offer an unfriendly wave of the hand. Yelling and honking are other forms of road rage as well that could result in drivers becoming so heated that they hit other vehicles.

While you’re on the road, you could see drivers who are not in the best mood or those who are rushing to get to their destination. These drivers could commit acts of rage while driving that can have negative results.
