Dealing with the danger caused by reckless driving

On Behalf of Kaston & Aberle, LLP | Jul 14, 2022 | Car Accidents

It can be a real trial to deal with reckless drivers. Because New York is highly populated, they can sometimes seem to be everywhere. You will need to work extra hard to stay safe on the road and avoid getting into an accident. If your luck fails, you also need to know how to deal with the aftermath.

The most common symptoms of reckless driving

Thousands of car accidents are caused each year by reckless drivers. There are certain common situations that you can identify that will help you avoid this type of hazard. Look for cars or trucks that are speeding, tailgating or swerving between lanes without using their turn signals.

A vehicle may be driving too close to the edge of the road or trying to split lanes with another vehicle. If this is the case, you should slow down to avoid it.

What to do after a reckless driving accident

If you were involved in an accident with a frustrated or reckless driver, there are certain things that you need to do. The first thing is to seek medical attention. It’s a good idea to keep records of all of your surgeries, medications that you were prescribed and any ongoing physical therapy or rehab that you need to receive. The more records you have, the stronger your case will be if you choose to file a claim for coverage.

It’s also a good idea to try to get as many photos as possible of your injuries, your vehicle, the other driver’s vehicle and the accident scene. If any damage occurred to nearby personal or state property, it’s beneficial to document this as well. It’s also good to get statements from police, medical personnel and bystanders.
